Is It Our Check To Cash?

Last night as my husband and I were spending our time together we started discussing the many arguments happening on Facebook behind the refusal of some athletes to stand for the national anthem. Some vehemently opposed, while others agreed and encouraged the action, saying that it was bringing much needed attention to the injustice occurring in our country.

Whether you oppose or agree, we should all take a step back and decided for ourselves how to handle our grievances.  I know most will say that we should support these athletes taking a stand on real life issues that we non-famous types have to deal with everyday. It’s warm and fuzzy to think they are showing solidarity with we everyday people.

However, once these athletes proceed to play this game and walk off the field who is left holding the bag 0f their recourse? When they have their press conferences and get their hashtags and mentions up on Twitter who is it that has to deal with the anger this has caused? We do.

It’s our sons and daughters being poisoned with lead. Our sons are being thrown away by America’s educational system and left for death and/or prison (because, make a few dollars for us why don’t you). I have to be extra careful when dealing with the police, my son will have to be thorough with his wording to any authorities. Not them. They will go on to their lives of fame and riches.

Now, I am not naive as to think that well-to-do brown people are not harassed, discriminated against or targeted, but I am neither as naive to think that what they are doing will make any difference. Protest without economic action is just the government (because BLM needs their permission to march) allowing “you people” to just blow off some steam. The government (the very people you are protesting against) tells you when, where and how you can protest.

Thank you all for bringing awareness to the issues that brown and poor white people in this country face, however, as the media does this has become an issue of patriotism and what rich slaves do with their time. We are still NOT addressing the issue of injustice! We are NOT making reforms in our communities. Sitting down or taking a knee has become of no consequence to our fight for justice, it is now just another controversy and another branch of the tree of hate that has plagued us as humans for so long.

  1. We have brought attention to it.They have known since slavery what and why it is. The question still remains what can we peacefully do about it that will finally usher in the needed change.

    • Only an economic upheaval would be enough to get their attention. If we all become self-sufficient it would be a welcome turn of tables and then we can fix things.
